HEIDCO is an emerging NYC-based dance company founded by Artistic Director and Choreographer, Caitlin Adams. HEIDCO was launched early 2018 in correlation with their premiere work, DISPLACE ENGINE, selected for Gibney Dance NYC's Performance Opportunity Project. The company recently guest performed s o f t & s t a r k, a site-specific piece created for the NYC Poetry Festival on Governor's Island. HEIDCO has performed excerpts of their current work, METALBODY at HATCH Performance Series through Jennifer Muller/The Works (NYC), and Arts on Site’s Performance Party (NYC). HEIDCO creates work and processes in response to wavering examples of democracy present in our society. Five female-identified bodies are given the space to act as leaders, supporters, followers, and rebels, establishing equality and mutual respect amongst the group. In her essay, (1970) "The Tyranny of Structurelessness," Jo Freeman identifies how power can be distributed in the formation of informal structures. These principles respond to her involvement in the Women's Liberation Group: delegation, responsibility, distribution, rotation, allocation, diffusion of information, and equal access to resources. These principles have manifested innately at the core of our process. The work explores movement, theater, bodily puzzles and invites a constant flow of in-studio conversation. HEIDCO is currently creating work as a continuous portrait of collective action, a tangible manifestation of our mission for social equity and participation.
